This book aims to contribute to a better understanding of the trade-offs involved in decisions regarding the (re)design of international manufacturing and logistics structures. For this purpose, a conceptual model is developed to enable a systematic analysis of the supply, manufacturing and distribution activities of internationally operating firms. The two main independent variables in the model are the location and annual capacity of manufacturing plants. Empirical evidence, based upon detailed case studies, illustrates the practical relevance of the model.

Reviews
‘This book occupies a unique position in the vast literature on multinationals...there are very few books which focus on how they run their international network of manufacturing and logistics operations. Bart Vos is making a much needed contribution to our understanding of this important and badly neglected area...He has chosen five interesting companies and has spent several years working with the relevant group in each. This immersion has given him insights which are exceptionally valuable and help all of us understand the key managerial issues in this important area.’ Kasra Ferdows, Professor of Management and Co-Director of Global Logistics Research Program, Georgetown University School of Business, Washington DC

‘... the academic reader may find much to provoke research ... well presented with clear, informative charts and tables ... there is an extensive international bibliography and copious notes at the end of each chapter.’ Supply Management
