This volume addresses one of the significant issues faced by modern manufacturing organizations. The author is currently Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, but the personal observations in the book draw extensively on his experience as Director of Ford Motor Company's Manufacturing Development Center. He addresses the people aspect of the manufacturing development process. He discusses their attitudes and the way they use their individual technical knowledge. He goes on to describe how the skills they have acquired by experience, study or observation combine with their creative imagination to form ‘the art of manufacturing development’. Throughout the book, the reader is provided with valuable insights into the development process as it operates in the present-day manufacturing environment.
